Meet Kurt Pinkerton

I’m Kurt Pinkerton — Texas Responsible Master Plumber, license RMP-21546 — and I’m the master plumber behind every water heater that carries the Rainstone Water Heaters name. When you read our blog, you’re reading my words. When one of our crews is in your garage, they’re doing the job the way I trained them to do it.

Kurt Pinkerton, Responsible Master Plumber (RMP-21546) of Rainstone Water Heaters

Thirty-eight years, one trade

I’ve been in plumbing for 38 years, and 27 of those years I’ve carried a master plumber’s license. My career is rooted in Dallas: for decades I headed A-Servco, the Dallas plumbing operation my wife Lezlee owns — and the permit record under my license there runs from 1991 through 2025, from residential service calls to commercial restaurant projects. Alongside that, I served as a licensed master plumber at the Dallas Housing Authority, where my work included servicing the UV system on a children’s water park. Earlier still, in the Houston market, I was master holder and production manager for a national corporate store, running crews of as many as 30 service plumbers. I’ve worked on water heaters in just about every kind of Texas home there is, and I’ll tell you what that teaches a man: the equipment changes every few years, but the rules of honest work never do.

How I work

Three rules run every job I sign off on. First, the price is the price — our service call is $125, flat, and it’s waived in full when you have us do the replacement; I’ll tell you what a repair costs before we start, not after. Second, I diagnose before I sell. A water heater that needs one honest part doesn’t need replacing just because replacing it pays better. Third, we leave your home as clean as we found it — if not cleaner. That cleanliness standard has been mine my whole career. And underneath all three rules is something simpler: I’m a Christian, I’ve been married to my wife Lezlee for 33 years, and I’m a grandfather. The homes I work in get the standard I’d demand for my own family — because to me, that’s exactly whose homes they are.

Repair or replace? My honest take

Homeowners ask me this every week, and my answer surprises people: if your tank has honest years left in it, I’ll talk you out of a new one. A water heater earns replacement when the tank itself is failing — rust at the base, a leaking shell, or repair costs crowding what a new unit costs. Everything else is usually a part, a flush, or an adjustment. I’d rather fix your heater today and earn your call for the next 20 years than sell you a tank you didn’t need.

What I think about tankless

Tankless is good technology — when it’s sized right and maintained. I see too many units that were sold on a promise and installed without anyone asking how many showers run at once in that house. An undersized tankless will disappoint you every single morning, and a neglected one, tank or tankless, dies young in Texas water. Get the sizing right, flush it on schedule, and it will treat you well. Skip the maintenance and no brand name on earth will save it.

The part of this work I’m proudest of

I’ve trained more than 25 people from their first day holding a wrench all the way to journeyman, and a handful of them have gone on to become master plumbers and run companies of their own. That matters more to me than any single install. This trade only stays honest if the old hands teach the young ones right — measure twice, price it straight, and never leave a mess for the customer or the next plumber.

And it isn’t finished. I’m bringing my own grandkids into this trade now, the way the old hands brought me in. Watching a grandchild learn this work teaches you what 38 years really bought: patience, and a name worth handing down. If they learn nothing else from me, they’ll learn that a plumber’s word and a plumber’s work are the same thing.

Verify it yourself

Don’t take my word for any of this — check it. You can look up my license (21546) in the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners public license search. The Dallas operation I headed for decades, A-Servco Plumbing, still has profiles up on Thumbtack and BuildZoom that list the same license number — and BuildZoom shows that license active. A man’s record should be easy to check, and mine is.
